Speedycom Heat Reflective Tank Covers

 In the world of racing every detail counts in that vital time difference to your competitor which means winning or losing. This range of covers will keep your fuel temperature static and the cooler the fuel the more power for your bike due to a greater level of fuel efficiency, also reducing the level of fuel that will be collected in you catch tank. These covers are designed as a generic fit using the D-Ring Velcro adjustment, ideal if you have more than one type of bike at events such as the TT.  Our tank cover design employs a pre-constructed shape along with Velcro straps in order to make a high performance tank cover which has the ability to fit many different shapes and sizes of motorcycle fuel tank.

 Construction as follows:

 Layer 1, Outer material: Highly-reflective PET foil with double-sided aluminium layer – This material is gas tight and resistant against a range of different media. It is also very flexible which is generally a good benefit for the forming of the cover to fit different fuel tank shapes. Heat reflectivity can be as high as 98% if the surface is clean and shiny.

 Layer 2, Substrate: To increase the durability and general strength of the reflective outer layer, we bond it to a woven glass fabric. The reason for using the glass fabric substrate is because it is a fire resistant material; inherently non-burning which is also highly flexible to match the characteristics of the outer reflective layer. The individual yarns that go into making the woven construction are stronger than some grades of steel weight for weight yet are also very light which is an absolute prerequisite for the fuel tank cover.

 Layer 3, Insulation: In order to provide an additional benefit of thermal insulation we sew in an inner layer of mechanically needled carbon fibre felt. Again, this material lends itself to the application as it is very flexible and also lightweight. You might think of carbon fibre as hard and brittle, but in this instance it is extremely soft, so will not scuff, scratch or mark the fuel tank it is covering. The carbon felt provides an efficient insulating layer to keep the fuel tank a little cooler.

 The general benefits of the system mean that on a hot sunny day, with the cover in place on the tank, you are able to reflect the sun’s rays thus keeping the fuel tank cool and reduce fuel evaporating and expanding within the tank.

This means you are able to carry a little extra fuel, so reduce pit stops and gain that little extra distance which could be the difference between winning and losing the race!
