GPR STEERING DAMPERS
We can not hold every different model in stock sometimes it may take 1/2 weeks for it to arrive from the manufacture.
The V4 model is no longer produced and the update V5 version is now supplied.
The function of a steering damper is to dampen or control the side-to-side sweep motion of the handle bars. Tank-Slappers, high speed wobbles, deflection and hitting any road debris should be absorbed and controlled by the steering damper. As well as reducing fatigue and arm-pump. Unfortunately stock steering dampers are usually of the linear type, not adjustable and fall way short of doing what a proper steering damper should do.
We firmly believe it’s better to control a rotary motion with a stationary rotary damper, not a linear damper or push / pull. Our patented rotary design and fluid control is implemented into 2 designs that were created for the best fit and function for dirt bikes, sport bikes, ATVs and Harley Davidsons.
GPR V5 Steering Damper
The GPR v5 is the fifth generation steering damper with two variations V5D and V5S designed for dirt bikes, adventure bikes, Harley Davidson and Sport bikes but is also used on several of hybrid applications. Its compact and slim design allows for the damper to be mounted below the handlebars, out of harm’s way, without raising the bars more than an inch. Frame mounts are machined steel or Cryogenic treated billet aluminum with stainless steel pin, and billet aluminum machined bar-mounts. Choose the GPR Pro Kit option and you’ll get a black anodized machined top-clamp, available for some applications. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUXA92UgFK0
FAQ
WHAT IS A GPR STABILIZER?
It is a compact, fully adjustable, hydraulic shock absorbing stabilizer that mounts to your steering head. By helping to stabilize the front end of your motorcycle, the rear of the motorcycle will track straighter allowing the rest of your suspension to work the way it was designed to. In addition, the GPR Steering Stabilizer eliminates that sudden thrust-effect of having the handlebars pulled from your hands after unknowingly hitting a pothole, rock or other obstacle in harm’s way. It has also been proven to help minimize rider fatigue and the dreaded arm pumping situation that occurs while wrestling the front end of your bike. A GPR Steering Stabilizer is the single greatest improvement you can make to your motorcycle. Once mounted, correctly, it reduces the unwanted phenomenon known as “Head-shake” that is commonly associated with production motorcycles. This is more predominant now a-days due to the steeper head angles you find on production bikes. It helps keep your motorcycle going straight at speed, under heavy acceleration when the front end starts to get light and when braking hard, vastly reduces any vagueness in front end control and steering preciseness, allowing you to apex turns tighter.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Basically, it operates under the same principle as your front forks. Valving inside the unit reacts to the slightest of jolts that are transferred through the forks and triple clamps of your motorcycle. Internal circuitry and hydraulic valving absorbs the energy that would have been received through your handlebars. The link arm which connects the stabilizer to the frame reacts instantaneously, absorbing any unwanted movement. Your suspension was designed to handle the vertical movement of your motorcycle. The GPR Steering Stabilizer completes your suspension package by controlling the unwanted horizontal movement that is continually transferred to your handlebars.
DOES GPR ACTUALLY MAKE THE STABILIZER AND MOUNTS OR JUST SELL THEM?
We hold patents and are proud to say that we design, manufacture, assemble, and test every GPR unit in our San Diego facility. O-rings, fasteners and fluids are the only parts we don’t make. Every damper mount and post mount bracket is prototyped and fitted in house for a 100% fit and quality assurance. Instead of a cast mold post mount, or a one “fit all” drill and tap bracket, all mounts and brackets are CNC machined for top quality. We have the knowledge of prototyping a new bike in a relatively short turnaround time, usually in just a few days. Using any 3rd party mounts will void any warranty.
CAN I CHANGE THE OIL IN MY STABILIZER?
Yes. Doing a oil change is a great way to prevent internal wear and tear. This will also allow the stabilizer to be in good condition for many years. Using the stabilizer with bad oil is the fastest way to ruin it. We recommend having the oil changed at least once every year. The fresher the oil is the better, it is the life blood of your stabilizer.
HOW DO I CHANGE THE OIL IN MY STABILIZER?
You should only do this if you feel confident to do so. If not, have a friend, technician or GPR do it for you. Step1: Set dial to setting 1 then remove stabilizer from bike and set on flat surface upside down. Step2: remove the two screws located on bottom of stabilizer body. Step3: push old oil out by moving the stabilizer arm. Step4: refill stabilizer with oil, we like a synthetic fork oil 3 wt. for dirt 15wt for street but that does not mean that’s what you have to use. Put screws back into stabilizer once filled. Do not over tighten, hand tight. Step5: Wash stabilizer and mount it back on to the bike, your done.
MY STABILIZER IS LEAKING OR NOT WORKING VERY WELL…HOW DO I GET IT SERVICED?
This stabilizer or steering damper is a hydraulic unit and will be in need of service at times to change the fluid and worn out o-rings. If your damper kit is brand new, right out of the package, it will have some excess oil on it. This is normal for it to weep a small amount of oil during the first initial ride. If it is persistently leaking or you have any concerns, please give us a call or fill out our service request form on the website. Either way, we’ll get you taken care of very quickly.
WHAT TYPE OF WARRANTY IS OFFERED WITH THE GPR STABILIZER?
We offer a limited 90 day warranty which covers the replacement of any defective parts or products sold by GPR Stabilizer or our dealers and distributors. If your damper has a problem in the first 90 days we will repair or replace at no charge. Using any 3rd party mounts will void any warranty. There is no warranty on electronics.
DO I HAVE TO WELD ANYTHING ONTO MY BIKE?
No. All of our kits are fully bolt on. No welding, drilling or tapping required.
I JUST PURCHASED A BIKE AND IT CAME WITH THE GPR MOUNTING HARDWARE. CAN I BUY JUST THE DAMPER OR PARTS NEEDED?
Yes! We sell all parts individually as needed, or offer complete mounting kits. We also sell just the stabilizer by itself, if that is all you require. You can see the Fit Kit section of our site for more information. Feel free to give us a call, or request a Fit Kit online, if you need to place an order.
HOW MANY DIFFERENT DAMPENING SETTINGS DO YOU HAVE?
The numbers are strictly for reference, so you can visually/physically know what adjustment you are at. No guessing or fumbling required. Every degree you turn the knob is a different setting, allowing you to fine tune the damper unit to your needs. The knob assembly rotates 360 degrees left or right allowing you to go straight from the softest setting to the hardest setting, if need be. It will not unload, unscrew, or pop out, disabling your damper unit. The lower the number, the softer the setting. The higher the number the harder the setting. Very simple and very effective.
