The Servo Buddy™ is a small, light weight servo fix that eliminates the need for the exhaust servo motor, which is not needed with any aftermarket exhaust system. These devices are typically called EXUP valves SET valves, or exhaust servos.
Typically, when you purchase an aftermarket exhaust a small plate is included to bolt onto the top of the exhaust servo, the purpose is to restrict the servo’s movement so the bike’s computer still thinks the exhaust valve is connected and working correctly, preventing the FI (fuel injection sometimes mistakenly called the F1) fault light from illuminating on the dash board.
The problem with these plates is they require you keep the servo motor installed, taking up a lot of valuable room that could be used for power commanders, traction control computers, quick shifters, or a huge variety of other accessories. Additionally, the servo motor is dead weight, providing no benefit, after all, half the benefit of that fancy exhaust system was to drop weight, right! Servo Buddy weighs 20grams or 0.6oz!
The servo buddy uses OEM connectors and easily snaps into place replacing the bulky servo motor. It can be zip-tied to the wire harness and takes up virtually no space. The body blends into the factory wire loom.
It works by electrically mimicking the working exhaust servo so the computer thinks all is well with the exhaust circuit preventing the FI light from coming on due to exhaust faults while still keeping the light’s other functionality to warn you if anything else is wrong with the bike!
Simply disconnecting the FI light or putting tape over it could mask potentially serious problems and lead to a damaged engine.
Now, the best part of all, the price, the goal from the start of this project was to product a servo eliminator that everyone could afford, nobody wants to drop another £100 after already spending £'sss on an exhaust system.
To provide a reliable long service life all parts were spec'd out to meet military or automotive standards meaning the device is tolerant to a wide temperature range. Additionally, the entire circuit board has been encased in a thick epoxy potting compound to provide protection from moisture and vibration. It will be EXTREMELY reliable under all conditions, whether your ride street, race, track, or adventure ride.
NOTE:
The BMW S1000 RR requires two Servo Buddies.
The earlier S1000 RR (2009 -14) Servo Buddy models (42-2750) were a simple design and only worked for those bikes they were relatively inexpensive to produce so can be offered in a twin pack.
As BMW advanced their electronics a more complicated Servo Buddy design was required with microprocessor control, Because the new design is far more expensive to produce, we could not offer a 2 pack for the same price, so the BMW S1000RR (2015-18) will require two separate servo buddies (42-2757).
2019 and 2020 models S1000RR still use the 42-2757 servo buddy, however they only require a single servo buddy, where as the older generation required 2. BMW added a cable linkage system to drive both valves from a single motor in the newer models.
